VAN HALENのギタリスト、Eddie Van Halenが現地時間10月6日に亡くなったことが、息子でVAN HALENのベーシストであるWolfgang Van HalenのSNSで発表された。享年65歳。
　
WolfgangはEddieの画像とともに、"これを書かなければならないなんて信じられないが、父であるEdward Lodewijk Van Halenが今朝、長く困難にわたる癌との闘いを終えた。彼は最高の父親だった。ステージでともに過ごしたすべての瞬間が贈り物だ。私の心は壊れ、いつこの喪失感から立ち直れるかどうかわからない。愛してるよ、父さん"とコメントしている。

Eddieは1955年オランダで生まれ、その後アメリカカリフォルニア州に移住し、兄のAlex van Halen（Dr）らとともにVAN HALENを結成。多くのヒット曲を生み出し、ライトハンド（タッピング）奏法をはじめとした革命的なギター・プレイで世界中のギタリストに多大な影響を与えた。
　
Eddieの訃報を受け、VAN HALENの歴代ヴォーカリストであるDavid Lee Roth、Sammy Hagarや、METALLICA、Ozzy Osbourne、RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE、Yngwie Malmsteen、PANTERA、YOSHIKI（X JAPAN）、Matthew Kiichi Heafy（TRIVIUM）、Mark Morton（LAMB OF GOD）ら多くのアーティストが追悼のコメントを発表している。

We are enormously saddened to hear about the untimely passing of Eddie Van Halen. We considered him an inspiration, an idol, and after spending a summer together on the road in '88, a friend. Sending love to Alex, @wolfvanhalen & everyone in the greater VH family.

Edward Van Halen was the single reason I ever wanted to play guitar to begin with. He's the worlds greatest guitar hero, inspiring generations of players to pick up the instrument we love so dearly.
